Peacefully, with family at his side, on August 23rd, in his 93rd year. He leaves to mourn his children, Sonja (Chris) and Damir (Jane), his grandson Zoran, and numerous nieces and nephews, with their families, in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as friends in Canada and abroad. Predeceased in 2007 by the love of his life, his wife of fifty-four years, Franka. Son of the late Anica and the late Jure Šušnjar. Predeceased by his brothers Božo (the late Iva), Slavko (the late Anda), and Ante (the late Janja), and sister Mila (the late Stipe), as well as his sister-in-law Jasna (the late Ivan) and brother-in-law Ivan (the late Marija).
Always having an independent streak, he owned his own business, a fur shop, in then-communist Yugoslavia. He followed the fur trail to Germany in 1959 and thence to Canada in 1960, and, had it not been for his wife's putting her foot down in Montreal, would have gone on to the Yukon in search of the best furs. A polyglot, an amateur artist, a chess and soccer enthusiast, a proud Croatian, possessor of a mordant Balkan wit, dignified and upstanding at all times, a mellow "tata" and "dida" in his later years, he will be very greatly missed by those left behind.
