It is with a sad heart that we are announcing the passing of Predrag Sopta. Surrounded by those who loved him, Predrag passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2022, at the age of 88.
Predrag was predeceased by his loving wife Vjekoslava (Boba) and is survived by his son Zoran, daughter-in-law Pina, and grandchildren Anthony (Jessica), Christopher (Samantha) and his youngest pride and joy Matthew. His life and memories will be treasured by his sister-in-law Marica, his nephews John (Janice), Frank, and Anto (Tatiana). He also leaves behind his brother Anto (Ruza) sisters Marija (Mijo) and Mirjana, and their families.
Predrag’s life paints a rich tapestry of experiences illustrative of a man of large character who always put the needs of his family above anything else. At a young age, he left his family home to work multiple jobs so that he could fulfil his dream of graduating from the University of Sarajevo.
Predrag also took on the responsibility of giving his siblings a chance to follow in his footsteps by guiding them in fulfilling their university and college dreams. Upon arrival to Canada (1967), he worked hard to maintain his professional status as an economist with international work experience at Montreal Trust Corporation. His ambition and knowledge of securities soon led to multiple promotions as well as professional accolades.
He was one of the major influencers in modernizing the Toronto Stock Exchange and retired as a Senior Director for Bank of Nova Scotia. Predrag was also loved by his community and his many friends at Abbeylawn where he was renowned for making conversation with everyone that he met.
