We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ratko Rakic. He is survived by his loving wife Mila and their children Slaven (Trish), Ksenija (Mario), and Ante (Janice). He leaves behind his adoring grandchildren Matthew, Emily, Nathan, Marina, Luka, Daniella and Olivia. He will be greatly missed by his brothers Mate and Ivan, his sisters Dragica and Ljubica, all of his nephews and nieces and brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as his family and friends in Canada, Croatia and BiH.
Ratko was born in Orahovlje near Ljubuški, BiH where he finished high school before going to Sarajevo to complete his electrical engineering diploma. He came to Canada with his wife and young son in 1974 and worked hard for his growing family before completing his electrical engineering degree at the University of Toronto. Besides education, nothing meant more to him than his family with whom he spent all of his free time. He loved sports, classical music and Sudoku, and he devoted himself to giving his children a better life. We will always remember how much he loved watching soccer and tennis with his family. His favourite pastime however, was coaching his grandchildren in hockey and soccer, and teaching them math.
He was intelligent, compassionate, generous, funny, kind and was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. People will always remember him as the most selfless man who would help anyone in need, especially the elderly. Ratko was a man of deep faith, and we feel comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven watching over all of us. Until we meet again, may he rest eternal peace.
