Rina Toich, a resident of Ossining, passed away on Saturday April 4, 2026. Rina was born in Punta Kriza, Croatia on November 6, 1937, and was the daughter of Ivan and Matea (Butkovich) Plesich. She was 88 years old.
Rina moved to the United States in 1965 with her husband Joseph and son Leno and settled in North Tarrytown. Her other two sons Johnny and Joseph were both born in North Tarrytown.
The family moved to Ossining in 1973. She worked for many years in the incoming mail department at Reader’s Digest. She also worked as a medical records clerk at Kaiser Permanente in White Plains, until her retirement.
Rina was a parishioner of St Ann’s Church in Ossining.
She loved to garden, cared for many plants and grew bounteous crops of vegetables. She was especially proud of her beautiful roses and her tomatoes. Every year, the tomatoes were canned to make enough sauce to last until the following summer.
Family was most important to her. She loved her children and their families, and all of her grandchildren dearly. Rina was a consummate hostess, and was always ready to whip up a meal of homemade pasta or gnocchi at a moment’s notice. And there was always a fresh pot of espresso to be shared.
Rina is survived by her sons Leno (Sandy), Johnny (Gennifer), Joseph (Dawn) as well as seven grandchildren; Matthew and his fiancé Julie, Julie, Meredith, Sarah, Jaimie, Grayson, and Julia. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 2018.
