Robert (Dida Bob) Bacich joined our Lord on February 9, 2022 surrounded by his family and fortified by the love of his entire community of friends.
Bosko was born on December 25, 1933 in Kuklijca Croatia to Petar and Ljubica Bacich. He immigrated to San Pedro in 1947 where he spent the entirety of his distinguished life.
He went to San Pedro High School where he met the love of his life Maria Duhovich, daughter of Steve and Ivancia Duhovich. They married in 1953 and spent 69 years together as a loving couple and became inseparable to the family as Dida Bob and Baba Mary.
Bob worked and held leadership positions at Fellow & Stewart, Harbor Boat and completed his career with the City of Los Angeles. When in retirement he began to travel with Baba Mary all over the world and back with his family and friends. He particularly became very good at finding the hot slots at the local casinos, playing competitive bocce with his friends, and perfecting the art of a great well-timed highball (the steak on the BBQ is done when the highball is finished).
He was a proud Croatian and was a pillar of the Croatian American Club as well as an officer with the Mary Star Croatian Guild. He danced Kolo with the MS Kolo Dancers and as a group they appeared all over the state. He was a master model and toy maker and he painstakingly carved and built hundreds of intricate wooden ships to scale to give to his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ljubica and Petar Bacich, and his younger brother Ronald Bacich of Hollister, CA. He leaves behind a legacy of love with his appreciative family: son Michael (grandchildren Nicholas, and Alix & Kyle Diatte) daughter Donna and Craig Reidt (grandchildren Craig Jr & Wendy Reidt & great grandson Jackson Robert, Christopher & Vilda Reidt, and Brittany Reidt), and youngest son Steven and Karen Bacich (grandchildren Brianna and Eric Murata, and Peter).
Dida Bob was always smiling, telling a joke, and was the life of any party. That life will be honored and missed to all who had the great fortune to call him friend, father, loving husband, and Dida.
