On February 13, 2022, Robert G. Ruzanic, age 84, of Allison Park, passed away. Born February 28, 1937 in Homestead, Pennsylvania, Bob Ruzanic grew up in Churchill, PA and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1955.

After receiving a tennis racquet from his Aunt Anne, Bob developed a lifelong passion for tennis, playing for Central and later Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, Bob won the Bermuda College Tournament in 1960. After returning to Pittsburgh, he taught Phys. Ed at St. Anthony's School and tennis at North Park Tennis Club.

In 1967 Bob became tennis pro at Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, a position he held for 37 years. Bob met and married his beloved wife Joyce in 1968 and they celebrated 54 years of marriage this past Groundhogs Day. Together they owned several sporting goods stores in Pittsburgh and Youngstown.

Bob competed in local and regional tennis tournaments and served in national and regional organizations, receiving numerous awards including Professional of the Year by the USPTA. As Chairman of the USTA's Sanctions and Scheduling, he oversaw nearly all U.S. tennis tournaments. Bob was appointed Chairman of the United States Davis Cup Team.

During his 6 years with the Davis Cup he represented the team at tournaments in England, France, Croatia, Slovak Republic, Spain, and Zimbabwe. Bob brought his family on his travels, meeting dignitaries, ambassadors, celebrities, and premier tennis players.

After retiring as pro, Bob worked tirelessly to promote tennis in local schools with the USTA. Bob provided color commentary for local tournaments and advanced diversity and equity in the game through the creation of the Tennis Patrons Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh in 1989. The Patrons Foundation reached over 4,000 under-served youth. Bob taught and mentored hundreds of local tennis players and many in the region credit Bob with inspiring their careers in tennis. He was not merely a tennis coach; he was a mentor whose support extended far beyond the tennis court.

Bob was a larger than life figure, noted for holding court regaling audiences with his wild stories. He loved to be with people, and treated all with dignity and respect. Bob was interested in every person that he ever met; he knew everyone and, not unsurprisingly, everyone knew Bob.

Bob was an avid sports fan, never missing a Steelers game, and always ready with a raw critique of the team. Bob delighted in life and took pleasure seeing those around him enjoy themselves. He loved to fish, sail, garden, and spend time with friends and family. More than anything he dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and their pursuits. In his later years he took up Sudoku and reading-unable to find enough books to feed his desire to learn.

Bob is survived by his wife Joyce Ruzanic, daughter Marhea, sons Alex (Elizabeth) and Robert; and grandchildren Annie, Lucy, Jack, and Wyatt. Bob will be dearly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
