Rose-Marie Grubišić passed away on August 31, 2023 at the age of 73, surrounded by her family.
Beloved daughter of the late Raymond Rossier and Amélie Aebischer, dear wife of Vinko Grubišić, loving mother of Nik (Katie) Grubišić, Maya (Ante) Grubišić, and Katia (Pablo) Grubisic, and doting grandmother of Jakob, Klara, Milan, Ellie, Beatriz, and Karmela.
She will be deeply missed by her twin sister Andréa Rossier (late Marcel) and her sisters Marie-Antoinette Roulin (Fernand), Bernadette Guigue (Raymond), and Anita Despont (Pierre-Marie).
She also leaves nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
Rose-Marie was born in Switzerland, where she met and married Vinko, and together they emigrated to Canada in 1975, and, after moving frequently, eventually settled in Waterloo region.
Rose-Marie was fearless in every adventure she undertook, from moving across the Atlantic to a country she'd only read about in snowy novels, to raising their three children with strength and grace, to supporting her husband as he built his academic career. She learned new languages and adapted to new situations, and, a born storyteller, everywhere she went, she regaled friends new and old with well-worn anecdotes.
For over four decades, except the years she stayed home to be with her children, Rose-Marie taught elementary school, in Switzerland, at the Toronto French School, and in numerous schools in Kitchener-Waterloo. She knew the French language inside out, and scores of kids grew to love French through Madame Rose-Marie's songs and games.
She was determined to see the best in the world, and in everyone.
