Sam passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022, at the age of 91, with his loving family by his side.

Sam was born on December 31, 1930 in San Francisco, California to Croatian immigrant parents Lee and Mary Mosunic. He attended and graduated from St. Anne's, Sacred Heart High School (1948), and San Francisco State University (1956).

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard (1951-1955) during the Korean War. A respected banker, Sam enjoyed a 42-year career in the banking industry throughout the Bay Area. He retired from Liberty Bank in South San Francisco as President and CEO.
In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his daughters, Rose, and his brother, John Mosunic.

He will always remain in the hearts of his devoted daughters, Gloria Barbarotto and Susan Mosunic; cherished son-in-law Nick Barbarotto; his treasured grandsons Nick (Raquel), Joseph (Jelena), and Stephen (Jaimie Lenzini) Barbarotto, and great-grandchildren Vivian, Jack, Lucia, Luka, and Isabella Barbarotto, who brought him blessings beyond his imagination.

Sam is survived by his devoted partner of almost 30 years, Gerry Zaro Johnson, with whom he enjoyed a life filled with loving companionship and joy, including dancing and travelling.

He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Stagnaro, numerous relatives, and many friends he acquired throughout his lifetime in the banking industry, as a dedicated member of the Croatian community (SMBS, CFU), as an active participant in the Lions Club, bowling, bocce ball, and sporting events.

Sam was a man who was not driven by the need for recognition but, rather, a desire to help all people. For those who knew him, this was fully evident, and he was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all. True to his character, although Sam had a multitude of accomplishments, receiving many accolades and honors throughout his life, he did not want them listed here, but rather wanted to express his gratitude to all who gave him support and gave consequence to his life's work. He left this life with no regrets. He had a full and complete life with great love and endeavors that made life worth living. He lived the life God intended.

Sam leaves behind an incredible legacy, and we will never forget him as those who live in our memories and our hearts truly live forever.
