“Sam” Nikolic, 88, of Ridge, New York, passed away, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Luxor Mills Pond Rehabilitation, Saint James, New York.

Sime’s resting place will be at 11727. Sime was born on July 31, 1933 in Yugoslavia-Croatia to Marija and Anton Nikolic.

He met his loving and devoted wife, Karmen on Unije, Croatia. He knew when he first saw her that she was the one he would marry. He pursued her for many years and they began a loving marriage in 1960 which spanned over 61 years. Together they raised two children, Ingrid and Anton, with much guidance, love and support.

He came to the United States to purse the American Dream. He literally came here with very little, worked hard, sacrificed much, and saved every penny to create a wonderful life for his family. His greatest satisfaction and pride were the success and achievement of his children and grandchildren. He always shared many of his personal stories with his family and friends.

Every story was filled with vivid details and meaningful teachings. He retired at the age of 65 and prior to his passing he continued to be an avid story teller, built three large wooden model ships, by hand, with the original being displayed in the clubhouse at “The Glen.”

He enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends overseas using his iPad, listening to Croatian music as well as singing and dancing with his wife at Croatian festivities. He was also a proud member of the Adriatic Social Club of Southold. Sime is survived by his adoring wife Karmen, his two children, Ingrid and Anton, his five grandchildren, Mark, Nicole, Gia, Amy and John, his sister Zora Sormeley and brother Josip Nikolic.
