Steve Mocilac

Rođen:04.02.1937. (Novi Mikanovci, Hrvatska)

Preminuo:25.05.2026. (Prince George, Britanska Kolumbija, Kanada)

Dob: 89

Born in Nova Mikanovci in 1937, Steve departed Croatia in 1951 and made the long journey to Canada where he truly embraced the Canadian dream. He landed in Halifax and eventually ended up in Prince George where he met his wife Jean and they built a life together. Steve came to Canada as an ironworker/welder and established himself as a respected businessman and owner of MidWay Wrought Iron Works; where he prided himself on creating and designing railings and a variety of ironworks masterpieces. In 1981, he sold his business and semi-retired to dabble in farming and putter on his acreage in Pineview.

In 1965, Steve married Jean and together they built a family; first a son, Frank and then a daughter Marie. Steve loved family fishing trips to Tezzeron Lake and packing up the motorhome or camper every summer exploring the nooks of beautiful B.C. As they got older, Steve and Jean loved going to Blue Grass Festivals and Old time Fiddler dances near and far where they would dance to their heart's content. Steve LOVED to dance and listen to ‘old time music’.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Jean; son Frank (Annie); daughter Marie; five grandchildren Caden (Jael), Hunter (Olivia), Alexa (Austin), Sasha (Dylan) and Matyas (Erica). To say his grandchildren were his greatest joys in life is an understatement. Grandpa Mocilac loved attending their many sporting events as they were growing up and teaching them life’s lessons. When the kids were old enough, Grandpa loved sharing a good glass of homemade wine with them – another thing he took great pride in making. Visits to ‘the farm’ often resulted in an impromptu fashion show with the grandkids modelling all of Grandpa’s unique wardrobe treasures – entertainment at its finest! Steve was silly and mischievous and glimpses of this are present in his kids and grandchildren. Gatherings at the farm created lifetime memories for all of us.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and team of specialists who cared for Dad and kept him in good spirits until the end. To the team at Hospice House, thank you for allowing our family and friends to gather to share memories and wrap Dad/Grandpa in love until the end.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Prince George Hospice House.

No service by request. Celebration of Life details are still being worked out, but will be held at a later date.

“We love and miss you already. Forever “plaid for Dad/Grandpa.” Time to rest now… your work here is done.”
