Tom truly lived his 92 years to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was born on May 5, 1931 in Sumartin on the island of Brac, Croatia.

Boats, fishing and a survival instinct were there from his early years. Tom survived the war and went on to learn his trade as a boat builder. It was evident very early that he was on a quest for more. He served 3 years in the navy and worked 3 years as a boat builder before escaping the communist regime in search of entrepreneureship and a better life.

The journey took him to Italy, France, Algiers before making his home in Canada. He started his new life as a commercial fisherman and went on to create Tom-Mac Shipyards which is still “BC’s Best Little Shipyard” and is now run by his son Tommy and his team. In 1961 he married Cecilia and they were devoted lifelong partners. Together they raised 3 kids, built 4 houses and enjoyed the ride together.

Tom worked hard but equally liked to play hard. He retired at 64 and Tom and Cecilia were fortunate to have travelled far and wide. Some of their best times though were spent with their family and friends at Lawai Beach in Kauai and skiing at Whistler. Tom was passionate about gardening, vino, music and beamed when twirling his “Cici” on the dance floor.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Cecilia, his children Tommy (Kim), Christine (Kevin) and Michelle. Pops was a proud grandfather to Spencer (Jasmin), Brodie, Hannah, Jeremy, Chantelle , Finn and Bob, and great-grandsons Max and Roman.

Tomislav was predeceased by his parents Marko and Perina, his siblings Marija, Paulo and Rosanda, parents -in-law Joe and Teresa Ivsich, and son-in-law Patrick Ganske.

Tom’s family is very appreciative of the kind and loving care he received from the team at Kin Village. Their dedication made all the difference during his 15 months there and especially during his final days.
