We are sad to announce the passing of Tomo Bigunac on Sunday, March 5 of 2023, in Houston, Texas at the age of 99. He was born on December 21st of 1923, in the Dubrovnik region of Croatia to Nikola and Mare.
Tomo lived in Croatia for half of his life. He lived through World War II, escaping and evading the Nazi conscription. He immigrated to America just short of 50 years old and started a new life in Los Angeles. He didn't know the language, but that didn't stop him from persevering and building a prosperous life here.
One thing remained constant about him throughout, and that was his resilience and zest for life. In his retirement, he found joy in gardening and was known for his green thumb. He truly had a gift for cultivating fruits and vegetables.
His family enjoyed his lemon, orange, and peach trees for years. He also grew grapes and olives and made wine and olive oil until he was about 94. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
He is preceded in death by, his father, Nikola (1890-1940); his mother, Mare (1891-1975); and his wife, Katica (1931-1997).
He is survived and missed by his loving sons Anthony Bigunac and Frank Bigunac and wife Rosie; and his beloved grandchildren, Katherine, Jocelyne, and Thomas.
