Antoinette (Toni) Marie Hinojosa, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at the Heart Hospital in Austin, Texas. Born on August 12, 1936, in the village of Valun, on the island of Cres, Croatia, she was the beloved daughter of Antonio and Antonia (neé Vidich) Krivicich. Toni is survived by her dear brother Aldo and two loving sisters, Veneranda and Agnes, all of Ohio.

In November of 1951, following the aftermath of World War II, Toni and her family received sponsorship and immigrated to the United States in search of a better life, eventually settling in Columbus, Ohio. There, she met her one and only love, Armando Hinojosa, an airman in the U.S. Air Force.

The two married in 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Columbus and began a family together. Armando's career took them to various locations, including Crete, Greece; San Angelo, Texas; Sacramento, California; and ultimately Austin, Texas, where Armando retired after 22 years of service.

Toni and Armando were the cherished parents of six children: Rudy, Steven, Lisa, David, Eva, and John. She was also deeply admired by her daughters-in-law, Rebecca (married to Steven), Betsy (married to John), and Karín (married to David), as well as her son-in-law, Randy (married to Lisa). Toni was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren: Nicole, Natalie, Christie, Courtney, Adam, Michael, Stephanie, Vincent, Ryan, Megan, Addison, Samantha, Armando, and Giovanni. She was also a great-grandmother to four: Gabriella, Ryker, Mason, and Luke. Affectionately known as Nonna, she was the heart of her family.

Toni took immense pride in her Italian and Croatian heritage, demonstrating a remarkable resilience and self-reliance from a young age. Her passion for gardening was evident in the bountiful organic produce she cultivated in her backyard. She found joy in pairing her love for gardening with red wine and classical music, creating moments of perfect harmony.

Her family fondly remembers her toasts, often saying "alla Vostra Salute" or "Cent'anni," meaning "to your health" and "one hundred years," respectively. Toni also affectionately referred to herself as "capo di tutti capi," or "the boss of all bosses."
Toni's legacy lives on through her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will miss her fighting spirit, her stories of the old country, and her zest for life.
