Tony V. Martinovic, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was the husband of Jenny Martinovic, sharing 41 years of marriage.
Born in Veli Losinj, Croatia, Tony was the son of late Mate and Marija Martinovic. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and five of his nine siblings in 1966. The family resided in Astoria, New York, though his love for his homeland never ceased. He was raised a believer of God and was a spiritual man throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Army beginning in 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1975. He married Jenny Suljic, the love of his life, on April 22, 1979, and started a family soon after. His wife, son and daughter were his pride and joy.
Tony was hardworking, a great provider to his family and especially enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking, and loved to hit the dance floor with his wife. He was thoughtful, compassionate and always ready to help. He loved conversation, and making people laugh with his storytelling and infinite number of jokes – he was loved for his wit and charm. Whether he knew you for 20 twenty years or for five minutes, chances are Tony greeted you with his warmth, a smile and positive energy.
Tony is greatly missed and survived by his wife Jenny, his son Ivan and daughter-in-law Lauren, his daughter Nastassia, and his grandson Luca, whom he adored. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters with whom he shared loving bonds and friendships. They are Kazimir, Marija, Bogomir, Ivan, Janja, Lucia, Tomica, Tereza, and Benedict, along with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
