Velimir Zic, 60, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026.
Born on September 5, 1965, in Punat, Croatia to Lucijan and Velinka Zic, Velimir spent the first six years of his life in his beloved homeland before his family relocated to France. They later immigrated to the United States, settling first in Astoria, New York, and eventually in North Bergen, New Jersey, where Velimir was raised.
He graduated from North Bergen High School, where he proudly participated in the ROTC program and was a member of the track team. Following graduation, Velimir began a career in painting - a profession that became much more than a job. He took tremendous pride in his work, first painting homes and later working on bridges, earning the respect of those around him through his dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic.
In 1986, Velimir met the love of his life, Marilyn, through mutual friends. What began as a friendship soon blossomed into a lifelong romance. The couple married in November of 1989 and built a beautiful life together, raising two wonderful children. Velimir was a devoted husband and an exceptional father who never missed an important milestone, sporting event, or family moment. His children were his greatest pride and joy, and he worked tirelessly to provide them with a life filled with love, support, and happiness.
Velimir was an active member of both the Old Bridge Elks Club and the Old Bridge Knights of Columbus, organizations that brought him lifelong friendships and gave him the opportunity to serve his community.
Outside of work, Velimir embraced life with passion. He was an avid car enthusiast with a special love for collecting Corvettes. He loved to ride his motorcycle, feeling the wind in his face and feeling free. His tattoos reflected his unique personality and he wore them with great pride. A lifelong soccer fan, he faithfully cheered on his beloved Croatian national team, never missing an opportunity to watch them play.
Velimir was preceded in death by his beloved father, Lucijan Zic.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 40 years, Marilyn; his cherished daughter, Nicole and her husband, Eddy; his beloved son, Daniel and his wife, Jessica; and his treasured granddaughter, Leanora, who lovingly knew him as 'Grandpa' or 'Tata.' He is also survived by his loving mother, Velinka Zic; his sister, Freny, and her husband, Brian; his nephew, Jack; his nieces, Lacey and Kadence. He will be missed by his many cousins and extended family in Croatia and his beloved grand dog, Reggie.
Velimir will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family. He loved being a father and loved all of his kids friends as his own children. We remember his incredible work ethic, his generous heart, and the joy he found in the people and passions he loved most. His kindness, strength, sense of humor, and larger-than-life personality touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Velimir will make his final journey home, where he will be laid to rest in the country that always remained in his heart - his beloved Croatia.
