Peacefully, on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Trillium Health Partners at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Ivan for 57 years. Cherished mother of Zdravko (Veronica Nosić) and the late Srečko. Devoted Baka to Zoe Veronika Stella and “adopted” grandma to Tony, Josipa, Ivan, Manda Veronika, and the late Marko.

Veronika was born in Staro Petrovo Selo on May 17, 1945 to Marija Hajdas and Djuro Krsnik, and immigrated to Canada in 1968. She passed away March 17th 2022, due to complications from a stroke, with her husband and son by her side.

She was a devoted and loving wife, a caring and fantastic mother, a simply remarkable Baka, and a dependable and extremely supportive mother-in-law. She loved, and was loved by, all of her many nieces and nephews. She was a loyal friend to all the people that knew her. She was always helpful to whomever needed anything. She always sacrificed her time for others out of authentic helpfulness, and she never asked for anything in return. She adored and loved to be around children.

Veronika was often up at the crack of dawn and onto her busy scheduled day. She was always on the go and always found some chores to do, never one to sit still. Her work ethic was unparalleled. She loved family gatherings and genuinely relished offering you one of her home cooked meals or her domaće kolače. She revelled even more when she watched you enjoy eating her home made goodness. In reality, you never had the option to say no. She never failed to make people smile with her lively and outspoken personality. She was vibrant, talkative, and always energetic.

She was happiest when she was secretly planning the next family surprise party or gathering. She was the organizer, the cook, the server, and the clean-up staff, all in one. Afterward, she would still find the energy to sing at the top of her lungs and dance the night away -- her signature move, one arm held up high in the air. Her enthusiasm was unrelenting.

Her network of family and friends is vast and deep. She has many relationships that have spanned 5 or 6 and even 7 decades. She has dozens of phone numbers memorized of her in-laws, friends, associates, with whom she kept regular contact with. She was linked-in, well before there was something called LinkedIn. She was far from shy, and she would easily strike up conversations with neighbours and strangers, with them often becoming friends.

Through her kindness, goodwill and generosity, she became a "surrogate" Mom to Mile and Perka, and an extraordinary “adopted” Grandma for Tony, Josipa, Ivan, Manda, and the late Marko. Together with Dida, she helped guide and raise the kids as if they were her own biological grandchildren.

In her final years, the apple of her eye was her granddaughter, Zoe. She would simply drop everything for her at a moment’s notice. She was always prepared to make Zoe’s favourite breakfast, lunch or dinner. If asked, she always had time to patiently feed Zoe, dress Zoe, babysit, play with, pick up, drop off, or simply watch over. It brought her tremendous joy and happiness to simply be around for her.

Veronika will be profoundly missed by so many of the lives she has touched. She has left us with a big gaping hole in our hearts, but we are all left better for knowing her and feeling the love and joy that she spread to her family and friends. She laboured her entire life, and undoubtedly left the world a better place than she found it. May she now rest in peace.
