Surrounded by her family, we are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Victoria Margaret (Mariani) Bondi, age 94, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Born in Komiza on Vis Island in Croatia, she came to the United States in 1935 with her mother Similia and younger brother Nick to join her father Josip in Cupertino. Mitchell and Andrew joined the family in the 1940's. She married Salvatore (Sam) Bondi in 1947.
Victoria spent most of her life in Santa Clara County, including the last 72 years in the same family home in Morgan Hill. A tireless worker, she worked in the fruit orchards and related industries of Santa Clara Valley, and helped on the family farm. For 40 years, until her retirement at age 62, she worked in the area's canning industry in the labs as a quality control person for those companies. After retirement, Victoria happily and enthusiastically worked as a volunteer with some programs at St. Catherine's Church and other organizations. Hard work made her thrive.
Victoria will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and family matriarch, and as a gracious friend to many. She had a love of cooking and entertaining family and friends and loved traveling. Victoria was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, and oldest brother Nick. She is survived by her two brothers Mitchell and Andrew Mariani, her six children Sylvia, Lydia, Cynthia, Joann, Joseph, and Gina, and their families which include 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and their families.
Victoria will reside in our hearts and will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in Peace.
There will be a private graveside service on Thursday, January 20. Due to COVID, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Spring for all who knew her.
