Vince passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, May 28, 2022.

Vince was born May 1, 1927 in Fresno, Calif., to Anton and Maria Obradovich, Croatian immigrants. He attended Fresno Tech, where as a senior he was student body president. He joined the United States Navy in May of 1945 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor.

After his time in the Navy he obtained his pilot's license, having always wanted to fly. He began work with the Bell System Telephone Co. in 1948 as a technician where he continued his career for 37 years. In 1947 he met the love of his life, Mary Frances Dulcich of Portland, whom he then married in 1952. They settled in Southeast Portland where they stayed for 70 years, raising five children. After retirement from the phone company, he went to work for Oregon Health Sciences University, where he maintained the phone system for five years.

He was very involved in his faith community at St. Ignatius Church and School as coach, repairman, lector, line-painter, and chairman of the Italian Dinner for many years. He was a skilled woodworker, having taught a course in it at PCC up until he was 82. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and was an avid bowler, participating in tournaments up until the age of 84. He was mechanically inclined and had an eye for perfection, finishing all projects with meticulous care.

Vince had a way of making sure that everyone in the room felt included and was quick to introduce himself to newcomers, taking them under his wing until they felt a part of the group. He was known to regularly pick up the phone, just to check in with people to make sure they were doing okay. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor to many. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched.

Vince was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia; and brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; his sons, Tony (Jodi), Matt (Sandra) and Dan (Georgia); his daughter, Theresa Stankovik (Miki); and nine grandchildren, Nick (Robyn), Clare, Rebekah, Maria, James, Elaina, Natalie, Antonia (Brad) and Nikola; and by his brother, Babe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Ignatius School Foundation – Patricia Obradovich Fund, 3330 S.E. 43rd Ave., Portland, OR 97206 or to St. Mary's Academy – Patricia Obradovich Scholarship, 1615 S.W. 5th Ave., Portland, OR 97201.
