Vlaho Medo

Watsonville, Kalifornija

Vlaho Medo passed away peacefully on May 26, 2022. Vlaho was born on August 12, 1941, in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

At the young age of 15 years he embarked on a long journey to Lima, Peru, where he would spend the next 20 years living and working.

He arrived to Watsonville, California in 1976 and within a year's time moved to San Pedro, California. He is well known for the 15 years spent working as supervisor in the packing room of Star-Kist Foods, Inc. He will always be remembered as "Charlie", a namesake nod to his time at Star-Kist. Vlaho shared the last 20 years of his life with Maria Fiamengo and together they enjoyed attending dinner/dance events at both St. Anthony's Croatian Catholic Church and Croatian American Club, bowling with playful competitiveness, and traveling together to Croatia, Mexico and Hawaii.

While Vlaho did not have children of his own, he spent the years celebrating and enjoying companionship with Maria's children and grandchildren; Tamara (Zeljko, Christian Simac) and Tonka (NikolasLoren Fiamengo). Vlaho developed a particularly tender and spirited grandparent connection with NikolasLoren, age 6 (Tonka Fiamengo).

Vlaho fought illness with stubborn endurance, was cared for by Maria and supported by loved ones until the very end. He will be missed by his "My Lady", Maria, Tamara, Zeljko, Christian, Tonka and NikolasLoren, along with so many family and friends not only in California but also in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

He was a member of Croatian American Club and the Libertas Foundation. Vlaho wished to be laid to rest in Watsonville, California. A private service will be held to honor his last wishes. In Lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his name to the Libertas Foundation.
