Yvonne (Eva Marianne Radakovich) Polich, 97, of Glen Allen, Va., passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022, after a brief illness. Yvonne was born on December 10, 1924 in Portland, Oregon, daughter of Joseph and Vinka Radakovich. She is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Ed, Bob (MaryAnne); and two granddaughters, Julia-Grace and Emma-Claire. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Radakovich.

Yvonne grew up in NW Portland in the Slabtown area, where her parents settled after they immigrated from the island of Pag, Croatia (former Yugoslavia). Yvonne graduated from St. Patrick's Grade School (she was a fast left-handed softball pitcher), St. Mary's Academy and attended Oregon State University.

Upon graduating from high school, Yvonne worked as a court reporter in Multnomah County Oregon and as the secretary for Sheriff Terry Shrunk. When Terry Shrunk was elected Mayor of Portland, she became his personal secretary for seven years. She then decided to become a stay-at-home mom, the greatest gift she gave her sons.

Yvonne married Bob on January 1, 1949, whom she knew from St. Patrick's Grade School. They recently celebrated 73 years of marriage together at the Westmont in Short Pump retirement community, where the residents came out and celebrated with them.

Her husband, Bob, worked as the time keeper for both the Western Hockey League, Portland Buckaroos and the NBA Portland Trailblazers for over 25 years. We estimate that she attended over 1,790 home basketball games.

After living in Portland, Oregon for 51 years, she and Bob moved to San Diego for 13 years prior to moving to Richmond, Va., in 2013.

While living in Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), California, Yvonne worked as a volunteer cashier twice a week at the local American Cancer Society Discovery Shop thrift store. She always looked forward to working with her team of other volunteers and socializing with everyone who came into the store. She was also a proud member of the Rancho Bernardo Woman's Club, where she enjoyed her many friends and chairing several committees.

Socially, Yvonne and Bob loved attending their weekly Rancho Bernardo dances. Everyone always wanted to join them at their table because they were such a fun couple. Yvonne loved meeting and talking with other people and referred to herself as "a people's people," which she was indeed. They also enjoyed traveling and taking 25 cruises with their friends.

Five years ago, Yvonne was so excited when she obtained her Croatian citizenship as she was very proud of her Croatian heritage and visited often. Starting at age 91 in 2015, she made 10 trips to Croatia.
