Zelimir (Bob) Juricic, 85, passed away peacefully on February 18th in Victoria.

Bob was born on April 1st, 1935 in Zagreb, Croatia (formerly part of Yugoslavia) to Ivan and Katarina Juricic and was the fourth of seven children. It was his mother's desire for him to be called Željko/Želimir/Desiderij in Latin - meaning one who desires (želi) peace (mir).

The first day of April is known around the world as one of the most light-hearted days of the year and it is said that children born on that day grow up to be wise and with a good sense of humor. Our father most certainly represented all of these beautiful personality characteristics.

At a young age in post-war Europe, Bob courageously escaped with his older brother from a Communist regime in Yugoslavia. Encouraging his fiancé Maja to make the valiant trip from Europe to Canada this dynamic couple initially settled in the small town of Tahsis on Vancouver Island. The foundations of these early life experiences manifested into a life-long ambitious, determined and globally successful scholarly career.

Bob studied at the University of British Columbia, Indiana University and the University of Nottingham, eventually becoming a Professor at the University of Victoria, where he concluded his career as Professor Emeritus.

Zelimir Juricic is survived by his wife Maja Juricic, children John Juricic (Colleen) and Cathy Boraston (Alisdair), grandchildren Dan Juricic (Natasha), Sarah Harrington (Brian), Mike Juricic (Sara), Kathryn Juricic (Ollie), Natalie, Amanda and Julia Boraston and great-grandchildren Luke and Max Harrington and Jake and Ayla Juricic.

As Bob liked to say, "Family is everything". Immediate family and close friends celebrated his life on a recent glorious, sunny and spirited day in Victoria. However, from that initial start of one person all that time ago, his extended Canadian family of approximately 30 close relatives will celebrate his life for eternity. Donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
