Zora Sajn (nee Barberic), 91, passed away May 26, 2025. She was born October 30, 1933, in Brod, Yugoslavia. Zora is survived by her son Branko (Monica); her four grandsons: Michael (Mary), David (Catherine), Philip (Angela), and Mark (Tara).

She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren, her sister Nada (late Steve) Prahovic, and sister-in-law Ivka (late Vlado) Barberic. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Zora was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Stephen Sajn; her parents Ivan and Anna Barberich; brothers: Ivan (Marica), Vlado (Ivka); sisters Barbara (Frank) Laic, Rosa (Anton) Dorin; and brother-in-law Steve Prahovic.

In 1962 Zora left Yugoslavia, now Croatia and came to the USA, Buffalo NY, with her husband Stephen and son Branko. Together they made their way from Buffalo to East Chicago, Indiana. As many immigrants did, Zora worked various jobs including a small clothing manufacturer in Indiana Harbor where she used her schooling in the textile industry. She moved on to Inland Steel working various jobs before settling in the Tool Room of the Machine Shop where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow steelworkers.

Zora loved her garden. She prided herself on the assortment of vegetables she would grow and share during those late summer months. Then it was onto canning. She loved canning her peppers, tomatoes, and pickles, and she even created her own salsa and spaghetti sauce.

Everything she made was from scratch. From homemade noodles to strudels, to povitica, there was always time to create these dishes with wonderful aromas. Those will be truly missed.

Zora loved to dance. She and Steve would kick up their heels at weddings and fests to enjoy the different polkas and ethnic dances that were being played.

But most of all, Zora loved her family. Her face would light up when one of her great-grandchildren would enter a room. Her home was filled with pictures of family and friends. For that she will truly be remembered.
